Helium was discovered on the Sun before it was found on Earth.

In 1868, astronomers studying sunlight during a solar eclipse spotted a mysterious yellow line in its spectrum. It came from a new element, later named after Helios, the Greek Sun god. Helium wasn't isolated on Earth until 1895.
